Best Films of 2014 - 1st Quarter

The first quarter of 2014 has been witness to some quality cinema with heroine-centric movies taking the lead. Here is a list of movies that have entertained us, made us laugh and some that have made us cry.

1. Dedh Ishqiya

Abhishek Chaubey’s second directorial venture Dedh Ishqiya, was as good as its prequel. The choice of actors perfectly fit the roles they played. Madhuri Dixit’s grace coupled with Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah’s comic timing gave the movie just what it needed to be a hit!

2. Hasee Toh Phasee

This movie had every element that a rom-com should have to do well! With some awesome sound tracks and an amazing on-screen chemistry between Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra, Hasee toh Phasee was a light hearted movie that could easily qualify as a viewer’s delight.

3. Highway

Imtiaz Ali who has delivered movies like Jab We Met, Cocktail and Rockstar, was spot on with Highway too. Randeep Hooda’s performance in the movie was outstanding. A.R. Rahman worked his magic as usual with tracks like Patakha Guddi and Mahi ve.

4. Queen

Queen was the highest rated movie for this quarter. It was a story of a typical Delhi girl who ventures on the path to empowerment and independence after her marriage breaks leaving her bereaved. A beautiful storyline, with the ability to make you laugh sets Queen apart from the mainstream commercial Bollywood cinema.

5. Ankhon Dekhi

Entertaining and thought provoking, Ankhon Dekhi is parallel cinema at its best. The casting, the dialogues, and the performances leave you impressed. Ankhon Dekhi qualifies as quality cinema.
