Bhaag Milkha Bhaag opened a new genre: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra

Award-winning filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and he is very proud of it as the movie on the life of legendary sportsman Milkha Singh has invited a multitude of biopics. The maker commented, “It (‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’) has opened a new genre, given us courage to tell Indian stories that are inspiring and need to be told. I wanted to do a story on partition, the suffering of women and kids during that time I did it through the story of Milkha Singhji in ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’.”

This year will see films on the life history of Mary Mom, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sarabjit Singh and Anna Hazare. These people have contributed largely for the country. However, Rakeysh is not planning any of it as of now, “I haven’t thought about it yet. I am not judgmental I will watch once it releases. All of them are interesting. It is important how it (biopic) is told or made, presented and acted.” He is presently working as a producer, director and writer for Mirza Sahiba and Raja too. Mehra is also financing Biryaani, helmed by Ram Madhvani.
