This Was Bhumi Pednekar's Response At Being Called A 'Village Girl'

Actress Bhumi Pednekar made her Bollywood debut with ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. Her second Bollywood outing ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ which stars her opposite Akshay Kumar is releasing today. Well, there is some similarity between the two films.

If you failed to notice, then let us tell you that both the films have not featured the actress as a modern girl. While 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' was set in Haridwar, 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' is set in a rural area where the actress plays a village girl. Interestingly her third film 'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan', which stars her alongside her co-star from first movie, Ayushmann, is also set in the rural milieu.

While there are actresses who do not want to be stereotyped by portraying only one role, Bhumi has no qualms in it. She said that she is happy that stories which are set in villages are turning into “high on content” films in Bollywood. The 28-year-old reacted strongly when she was asked by an emcee at the recent press conference that she is being referred to as Bollywood ‘village girl’ given the films that she has done.

Laughing at the question, she said, “I am confused if that’s a compliment or…” When asked her that by doing such roles, she is representing the masses, Bhumi said, “Well, yes, that’s 70 per cent of our country… and I think the kind of films that are being appreciated today, the kind of films that are high on content these days, are heartland stories.” She added, “So I am very lucky that I get these films. But as far as I am non-village in my real life, and I stick to being Bhumi (earthy), it’s all good.”
