Bollywood is an intrigued mode of cinema for Hollywood, reckons Abhay Deol

As he embarks on a journey of his international cinema with ‘The Lovers’, Abhay Deol’s frequent encounters with US filmmakers tells him a lot about Hollywood’s perception of Indian cinema. Abhay who conveyed about what he felt as an Indian fraternity member told that Bollywood has quite an interesting image set in the west.

Bollywood is an intrigued mode of cinema for Hollywood, reckons Abhay Deol

Abhay told that filmmakers across the US remain very intrigued for Bollywood and find it very emotive. For them it’s about colours, music and dance. “Filmmakers in the US see Bollywood with an amused curiosity. For them, musicals traditionally are rare in Hollywood, so that automatically puts all of Bollywood into one genre. The word brings up images of bright colours, music, beautiful women and muscular men. Funnily enough most of them haven't seen any Bollywood film but the name is something they are aware of,” he said.

Since ‘musical’ is a separate genre in Hollywood, what makes them more curious how every film down here if full of music and drama. Abhay’s film The Lover also stars Alice Englert, Josh Hartnett, Bipasha Basu and Tamsin Egerton and is directed by Ronald Joffe.
