Box Office: ‘Azhar’ playing a steady knock at ticket counters!

Having gone through a number of box office disasters in the recent past, while Azhar was expected to be Emraan Hashmi’s big revival to the good times, the extremely mixed response to the film played a spoilsport for him again. However, it was his audience that came out and showed some patronage and disallowed ‘Azhar’ from going down all the way in the opening weekend itself.

The biographical drama garnered a total of 20.80 crores in its opening weekend that puts it above all the last releases of Emraan Hashmi including Mr. X and Hamari Adhuri Kahani. While the figures do not necessarily reflect terrific times for its distributors, it very much makes Azhar stay in the game. A lot would however depend on the weekdays so it brings up its first week tally somewhere close to 30-35 crores.

While the film opened to a relatively reassuring 6.3 crores on Friday, the mixed word of mouth stopped it from escalating big time on ticket counters. Though the Tony D’Souza directorial isn’t made on a very high cost, it has to be seen if this one is able to finally get some good news for Emraan. As much as his hard word gets so visibly evident on screen, let’s hope there’s some respite coming for him at least from Box Office.

On the other hand, other Bollywood releases like Buddha In A Traffic Jam and Dear Dad were too dismal to make any impact on the box office and it was Captain America: Civil War again that kept the cash registers filled along with Azhar. With some big releases lined up in weeks to come, Azhar has to deliver in its first week itself.
