Dipannita all set to play new-age mother

Actor Dipannita Sharma, who plays a young mother in her upcoming film, is thrilled at how Bollywood has moved away from the stereotypical image of mother clad in a white saree and waiting for her sons. The actor feels that as society changes, films are also adapting themselves to portrayal of a mother. “Just because you are a mother doesn't mean , you have to stop taking care of the way you look or turn out. Today's mother is aware of her surroundings & although her child could be her priority, she doesn't forget to about herself. The changing mother on screen is a reflection of the changing mother in our society, which is extremely heartening,” she says.

She is a big fan of how actor Vidya Balan portrayed the role of a mother in her film Paa (2009). “I think that Vidya Balan played the role of a mother perfectly,” she says.

However, playing a mother was not easy for the actor as she has not experienced those emotions in real life. “I think the biggest challenge was that being a mother is not an emotion that I have experienced in real life yet, but as I started understanding the role, I realised that probably every woman has a hidden mother, whether or not she is one in real life, due to her inherent nurturing and loving nature,” she says.
