4 Times Diwali Clashes Became A Big Triangular Fight At Box Office!

While producers, distributors dread releasing their movies with a competition in front of them, we all know how Diwali is eyed as the most desirable release slot of the year. While the festival of lights sees at least a couple of biggies locking horns with each other at box office, the fight on occasions has expanded corners.

With Golmaal 3 being confirmed to come out on Diwali this year, Diwali 2017 has been added to the special list of witnessing a triangular fight. A triangular fight is when not one, not two but three movies have come out to take on each other at the ticket counters.

Taking a trip down memory lane, here’s when we saw Diwali witnessing a triangular fight with biggies:

Diwali 2004 – Veer-Zaara Vs Aitraaz Vs Mughal-E-Azam

While this essentially was a battle between two fresh biggies of different genres taking on each other, the re-release of the epic Mughal-E-Azam in a colored version had also made a lot of news. While Veer-Zaara and Aitraaz got maximum screen space, the Dilip Kumar starrer also found a lot of attention at box office.

Diwali 2005 – Garam Masala Vs Kyon Ki Vs Shaadi No. 1

Diwali 2005 was a starry affair as two multi-starrer comedies along with a Salman Khan starrer romantic drama released alongside each other. While Garam Masala was the only hit of the clash, the fight was fairly equal and got viewers thinking before word of mouth made it clear which way the clash was headed.

Diwali 2009 – Blue Vs All The Best Vs Main Aur Mrs. Khanna

One of the most star studied Diwalis ever was this one in 2009 when three movies of different genre came out to fight it out. Involving the likes of Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and more, though this one was a very heavy space for box office to handle, it was All The Best that picked up eventually to be the only hit of the season.

Diwali 2017 – Golmaal Again Vs Secret Superstar Vs 2.0

While the prospects of a triangular fight has not been in practice for a long time now, the confirmation of Golmaal 3 has given a new shape to this year’s Diwali. The fight is between Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan now. While Golmaal 3 and 2.0 are straight commercial entertainers, we know Aamir Khan never leaves a loose end to his side.
