    English Vinglish, the biggest Bollywood flick in South Korea

    The 2012 Indian comedy-drama film English Vinglish was a success at Indian box-office and it attained achievement in Hong Kong and Germany as well last year. Eros International decides to release the flick in South Korea in over 100 screens on 6th February and the response it has gained is tremendous. English Vinglish has become one of the biggest Bollywood releases in South Korea till date.

    Kumar Ahuja, President, Business Development of Eros International Media Ltd. said, “`English Vinglish` is a universal story that truly resonates with global audiences, especially as it relates to acceptance and the challenges of learning a new language. With newer markets for the film consistently opening, we believe audiences worldwide will continue to find a connection with this captivating film.” He opened up on the plan of releasing other flick, “In several new markets, including Asia, audiences have shown that they love Indian ethos and drama. In response to the growing appetite, we plan to release additional films like `Dabbang`, `Dabaang 2`, `Ra.One` and `Go Goa Gone` into new markets in the coming year.”

    The movie released in December 2013 in Taiwan grossed over Rs. 300,000 US dollar and has scored a position in Taiwan’s top 10 charts. Eros is planning to expand its horizons in Eurasia, Africa and Russia. It may release its 100 crore club’s hit flicks in these countries. English Vinglish is directed, written and given screenplay by Gauri Shinde. It stars Sridevi in the lead, along with Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand and Adil Hussain. The movie was screened in Toronto International Film Festival on 14 September 2012 and it won the director, an award for Most Promising Debut Director. The film has won a total of 10 awards in different categories.
