It seems to be a biopic trend in Bollywood with many filmmakers taking inspiration from real life heroes. Looks like life stories of sports people fascinate filmmakers more. While Dangal, Bhag Milka Bhag, MS Dhoni and Mary Kom were based on wrestling, running, cricket and boxing, respectively, Ritesh Sidhwani will be the first to make a film on Paralympic Games winner Deepa Malik.

When Ritesh’s script developing team came up with a story of Deepa Malik, India's first and only woman to win a medal at the Paralympic Games, he got really captivated and decided to make a film on her life. He immediately set up a meeting with the shot put winner and athlete par excellence. Deepa narrated her entire story to him which took nearly 5 hours.

"I had watched videos of her and knew that her life story was unreal, but when I met her and she let me hold her medal, the sheer weight of the silver gave me gooseflesh. At one point in her life she had to choose between death and life in a wheelchair and she chose the latter. But as she sat in front of me, there was nothing differently-abled about her. She was empowering, a pillar of strength, and I knew that we needed to take her fight to the big screen," said Ritesh.

Ritesh will produce the film along with his business partner Farhan Akhtar. The movie is expected to start rolling early next year. The team is yet to decide the main cast of the film.
