Filmfare Awards: The least of all ‘commercial events’

Filmfare Awards: The least of all ‘commercial events’

The reason we say ‘least’ is for the fact that no matter what the organisers hold up to earn revenue, no matter what the channels do for the TRP’s, at least the choices of winners this year at the Filmfare awards haven’t appeared to be blatantly sold, undeservingly shaky and morally moved.

Filmfare Awards: The least of all ‘commercial events’

By recognising a film like Ankho Dekhi, not only has the filmfare jury submitted a statement loud enough to cheer merit, it has also reinforced the likes of resourceful filmmakers to explore the unsaid surface of cinema. The critic choice awards picked an actor like Sanjay Mishra (Ankho Dekhi) who was until now only known as a character artist. The best film (critic choice) was given to the same film. The two mentioned awards were not really expected to be given out and the gesture does a lot of good.

One more facet the filmfare scored a few points this year on, was not peeling away anything for films like Happy New Year. The film has earlier won awards in the category of best film, best actor etc at several different shows. There is no doubt about the fact that awards structure in the country can never revive itself but the kind of gesture Filmfare has offered this year, there is hope for some encouragement. Ankho Dekhi, Haider and Queen dominating the ceremony completely, was one of those encouraging moves.
