Demonetization Effect: Force 2 Would Need More Force To Show Dominance At Box Office!

It’s certainly not the most lucrative time for our production houses expecting moolah out of ticket counters for demonetization has hit everybody hard. While Farhan Akhtar’s Rock On 2 went down as one of the biggest flops of the year, some part of its failure was largely attributed to demonetization. However, John Abraham’s Force 2 seemed optimistic and a good opening weekend was almost on the cards.

What turned out wasn’t too dismal for the makers, however they indeed must have expected much more. The Abhinay Deo directorial earned 6.05 crores on its opening day that doesn’t appear to be too high for a movie of that standard. While the makers expected some acceleration on Saturday, the mixed reviews made sure the film stayed in the same range and added 6.40 crores on Saturday. With this, the film has collected a total of 12.5 crores in the first two days.

Sunday would now determine whether Force 2 is able to get over the 20 crore mark in the opening weekend or else it will be considered an strictly average opening. While the action thriller has mostly been welcomes to average to good reviews, the general word of mouth is also mixed weighing in the positive area. However, the demonetization factor does seem to have played a part in its opening.

Since the John Abraham-Sonakshi starrer is a commercial action outing, it was majorly expected to perform well in the single screens. With theaters running dry in the last few weeks, the dent can be easily seen. On the other hand, the T-Series production Tum Bin 2 was absolutely dismal and registered very poor figures in the first two days. Hollywood release Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them was much better though. The Harry Potter spin off found good footfalls in multiplexes and may register solid numbers in the opening weekend.

The next big release is Shah Rukh-Alia’s Dear Zindagi that opens next week. Let’s closely follow if demonetization makes a dent in the Dharma bag as well!
