    Guddu Rangeela Inspired from Manoj-Bablis’ Honour Killing Case

    Subhash Kapoor recently made a revelation about his upcoming comedy film that stars Arshad Warsi, Amit Sadh and Ronit Roy in lead roles, that the film is based on Manoj-Babli honour killing case. The Jolly LLB fame further said that when the incident happened, he was writing the script for Guddu Rangeela and hence decided to incorporate this real life story in the film. The film roughly involves the incident in the story. Not only that, Arshad Warsi’s character in the film is based on that of Manoj and, his wife in the film is also named BabliJ.

    The Phas Gaye Re Obama director told TOI that Manoj and Babli belonged to community called Khaps, which didn’t allow wedding in the same community as they considered all their daughters and sons to be brothers and sisters. Going against their community, the couple, who was in love, got married in an Arya Samaj Mandir. Meanwhile, the Khap Panchyat decided to kill the couple.

     The couple approached the Chandigarh High Court and were given police protection and security from Haryana Government. While the couple was running away from their community with police protection, their bus was blocked by two men, who killed the girl and chopped the boy’s legs and hands, on the GT Karnal Road. Further their bodies were put in a rug sack and thrown in the water. A bit of this real life story can be seen Guddu Rangeela, which is scheduled to release on July 3.
