Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty garners 40 crores plus in its Opening Weekend

Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty that opened to a little over 12 crores on its opening day was expected to see a jump in the collections owing to the positive reports going in its favour. The business of the film saw a marginal growth on Saturday with 12.34 crores but all eyes were set on Sunday which would have marked its opening weekend tally. The film did see a major rise in the collections and earned 16.80 crores to make it a 40 crore plus opening weekend.

The film however failed to register the record of being Akshay Kumar’s highest opener which is held by Rowdy Rathore. It simply remains a mystery how Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty that released with some thousand odd more prints than Rowdy Rathore couldn’t surpass the milestone it had set. The film had everything set in its favour, Star power, Big Banner, Successful Director, Mass Appeal, Wide release and a Post IPL setting. Yet film’s under performance highlights the disappointment. Film’s sustainability would now depend on how well it performs on the weekdays. It is Khiladi Kumar’s first release this year and even he hopes to ride high with it. The film has generated mostly positive word of mouth and has earned praises for itself. Especially Akshay, who’s seen on screen after a long time has impressed everyone with his sensitive yet attacking appeal which only goes to widen his versatility.

Produced by Vipul Shah, Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty is directed by A.R. Murugadoss and is based on Indian Army’s tackling with terrorism and ‘sleeper cells’. Only the course of time will be able to tell if the movie finds any success in getting the audiences to the theatres in this scorching heat. The other release this week ‘Filmistaan’ despite a heavy backing of praises could only register a little over 2 crores but did see a significant rise over the weekend.
