Box-Office Report: Not For The First Time This Year, Hollywood Beats Bollywood

Box-Office Report: Not For The First Time This Year, Hollywood Beats Bollywood

It has become a disturbing trend for the industry of Bollywood that its films are getting thumped by imports from Hollywood.

This Friday’s biggest Bollywood release Raman Raghav 2.0 has been surpassed by Hollywood film Independence Day: Resurgence. Not that many had high commercial expectations from Anurag Kashyap’s latest film, which has been made on a shoestring budget.

Raman Raghav 2.0, inspired from the life of a serial-killer, has received rave reviews but made only ₹1.10 crore on Friday. On Saturday, the numbers slightly rose and the film minted ₹1.36 crore. If the trend continues, the film will just earn ₹4 crore at the box-office*.

Though the numbers of this Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Vicky Kaushal starrer might seem very low but it needs to be kept in mind that the film was made on a ₹3.5 crore budget and didn’t release on a huge number of screens.

But whatever might be the case, Hollywood benefited as disaster flick Independence Day: Resurgence had a much better weekend in terms of numbers.

Independence Day: Resurgence, which released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages, is a sequel  to the 1996 film Independence Day starring Will Smith. The film made ₹4.70 crore on the opening day. The number grew exponentially as the film brought in another ₹5.80 crore. The film earned another ₹6.40 crore on Sunday, which brought its weekend total to ₹16.90 crore in its opening weekend.
