Hussain Kuwajerwala thinks that casting TV actors in films has its own advantages

After doing shows like Kumkum and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Hussain Kuwajerwala has mostly focused on hosting TV reality shows in the last 10 years. Here, he talks about his upcoming singing reality show, Indian Idol Junior, and his Bollywood plans.

You tend to favour hosting shows over starring in fictional ones. Why?

I find it fun and challenging at the same time. I will be back on the singing talent show that first gave me recognition as an anchor. But even after doing it (hosting) many times, it never gets easy. With Asha Negi (actor) co-hosting with me, it will be super fun this time. The kids are so talented. I couldn’t imagine being so confident at that age.

You recently participated in an adventure reality show. How was the experience?

It is a unique show, and I had a lot of fun on it. I made many friends; it felt like a picnic. Also, to be able to do an adventure reality show gives you a different high altogether.

Are you keen to do fiction shows?

I have done almost everything on TV, so if something exciting comes my way, I will take it up. I don’t make too many plans, and I am not in a hurry to sign just anything.

For four years, I was busy with my Broadway-style show, which I am taking a break from right now. I am proud of the fact that it was the first of its kind in India.

    Are films on the cards?

Yes. Many TV actors are doing films successfully of late, but it’s still difficult to get a good break in Bollywood. People are open to casting TV actors in films, unlike earlier, when they felt that they were overexposed. It helps to hail from TV, as one comes with a large fan base as well as experience.
