I Don't Always Want To Be In The News Says Gautam Gulati

Last year, TV actor Gautam Gulati was all the rage. He also revealed that he was signing a solo film. But soon, he announced that he was quitting it. For the past few months, however, the actor has not been making headlines at all. Does that feel strange? “I don’t want to see myself in the news all the time. I want to be there for the right reasons,” he says.

The actor recently signed a three-film deal with Ekta Kapoor, after quitting the solo film that he had taken on earlier. He has decided to play a character in cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin’s upcoming biopic. But isn’t picking a smaller role in a film over a lead part unusual for him at this stage? Gautam explains, “It matters if the makers are experienced and established. A newcomer should think twice before choosing a project. I am an outsider, and I don’t have any backing in the industry. I have to look after myself. I also don’t want to let my fans down.”

Meanwhile, Gautam says that he would rather wait for the right script to make his solo debut. He wants to be part of projects in which the banner, producer and director work well together. He adds, “I am not in a hurry. Even today, I get scripts every day. Producers claim that the film will get a good release. But I believe a film should have the backing of a corporate house. If it doesn’t get a wide release, then what’s the point?”

What the actor really cares about, it seems, is the audience. “People respect me like I am their family member,” he says, adding that he is thankful to God for getting more than he wished for. “Big stars flop, and they don’t get the love of people. Nothing else matters to me,” he says.
