    Indian Films Loses The Battle For Oscars

    In the battle for upcoming 88th Academy Awards, Indian movies failed to reach the nomination list for Oscars. The movies on which most people were having their hope on were Court, Jalam, RangiTaranga and Nachom-ia Kumpasar in different categories. The announcement was made public by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, actor John Krasinski and filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee.

    Marathi film Court, which was nominated for the Best Film in Foreign category was left behind by movies such as Embrace of the Serpent (Colombia), A War (Denmark), Mustang (France), Son of Saul (Hungary) and Theeb (Jordan).  The 88th Oscars ceremony will be hosted by Chris Rock on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre. However, American Pixar artist and director Sanjay Patel’s Super Team made it to the final list in Best Animated Short Film.

    Jalam, RangiTaranga and Nachom-ia Kumpasar, were aiming to win in categories for Best Original Song and Best Original Score, but none of them could make it any further to the competition. Both of these films along with Konkani movie Nachom-ia Kumpasar were name with 112 films, fighting for the Oscars. India is yet to win an Oscar for Best Film in any category, where the closest movie which could come were Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, making its name in Best Foreign Film.
