Jim Broadbent is set to star in Ritesh Batra’s big screen adaptation of The Sense of an Ending. The book, which was released in 2011, has been written by Julian Barnes. The novel also won the Man Booker Prize the same year.

Ristesh Batra’s project will be bank rolled by BBC Films. “I never thought I'd direct something which I haven't written, but playwright Nick Payne has done such an outstanding job in adapting the script that I'd be silly to let go of this offer", Batra told Mumbai Mirror. "I've grown and evolved as the film has developed. I've been a great admirer of Barnes' work and to get to direct one of his great works is blissful”, he added.

The movie, which is a British production, will not include many Indian artists. The director was quick to draw comparisons between Irrfan Khan and the Oscar winning actor Jim Broadbent, he said, “They are both naturally gifted actors who have made unusual career choices and carved a distinct niche for themselves. Jim's performance in Topsy Turvy and Iris, for which he won an Oscar are fantastic. I'm thrilled to direct him".
