Kick - To Watch or Not to Watch

Kick is the story of Devi Lal Singh (Salman Khan) – an exceptionally brilliant and gifted boy - who gets a kick out of doing things ‘hatke’. He meets Shaina (Jacqueline), a psychiatrist by profession, and falls in love with her. The rest of the story revolves around how Devi Lal Prasad has to become Devil and follow the wrong path for the right reasons, because these reasons give him the real kick in life.

Note: Read ahead, no spoilers I promise!

    Being Salman

Salman Khan movies are famous not for their story, but for Salman himself. So, if you go to see Kick this weekend, don’t go expecting a great story, go there expecting great entertainment and you won’t be disappointed. Having said that, the story is not that bad and it’s definitely a notch better than the disaster that Jai Ho was.

    The Real Devil

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has performed outstandingly. Everything about him – right from his dialogue delivery to his haunting laughter – is just perfect. He has played the villain so brilliantly that for a minute you will forget the wonder that Salman Khan is, and appreciate his role whole heartedly. In a Salman Khan movie, it is very difficult for characters to make a place for themselves in the strong screen presence of Salman. However, Nawazuddin has been able to do so effortlessly.

    Dance Dhamaka

I was never a big fan of Jacqueline, but her dance in Jumme Ki Raat is every bit worth mentioning. Acting wise, she has done an average job, but then again, audiences enjoy a Salman Khan movie because it is all about him and not for any other cast member. Salman dances in his own signature style which might get you giggling!

    Blockbuster Dialogues

Most Salman movies have atleast one really powerful dialogue, that you take back home.  This movie has more than one such dialogue on which Salmam loyalists could hoot and whistle. My favourite is:'Mere bare main itna mat sochna, main dil mein aata hun samajh mein nahi.'

    What’s wrong with the movie?

The script is a little muddled and the story takes too long to build up. As a result, the second half is better than the first half. The movie is a commercial for everything that Salman Khan is. There are Being Human refrences, Pandey Ji references, and also – Salman’s love for children with cancer is an integral part of the plot. The songs are good, but make the movie seem everlasting.

Will you get a kick out of seeing Kick?

Kick is definitely worth at least a one-time watch, even for non-Sallu fans. It will entertain you, make you laugh and what more could you want in a festive season. Even if you don’t like Salman or the movie, you will still have Nawazuddin to enjoy, and believe me, he is worth seeing the movie for. Kick deserves 3 stars.
