Madhur Bhandarkar Supports Akshay Kumar’s National Award

Akshay Kumar was recently awarded the National Award for the first time in his elaborate career. While this was great news for him and the team of Rustom, the audiences were not happy by it. Because Akshay has a Canadian citizenship, he received a lot of flak on social media after winning the National Award. Now, four times National Award winner Madhur Bhandarkar has showed his support for the actor and said that it was well deserved.

“I am very very happy for Akshay and the entire team of Rustom”, said Bhandarkar, adding, “Ya I am very happy about it, because it was a very well jury set up and it was given to right people. So I am very happy for the entire team. Akshay Kumar definitely has been ignored by the popular award from a long time and I am happy today that he got his dues”. When he was asked to comment on the whole controversy surrounding Akshay’s nationality, Bhandarkar had a very rational and supportive answer.

“I don’t know about Akshay Kumar’s Canadian citizenship. I have no clue about this. I would say, he’s paying Income tax over here. He’s been one of the highest income taxpayers and he’s already received Padma Shri four years back and he has done Indian films over here. I don’t think about it that people are linking some other thing to it”, he stated.

The director also spoke about Manoj Bajpayee’s snub and said that the decision has been made by a just jury and it should be respected.
