Main Tera Hero - To Watch or Not To Watch

Main Tera Hero has ripped off a Telugu rom-com called Kandireega. Our hero, Varun Dhawan, is the Dennis the Menace of this small town. He decides to attend a college in Bangalore where he meets Ileana D’Cruz and falls in love (at first sight). She also happens to be the fiancé of the city’s thug cop i.e. the gigantic Arunoday Singh. His anger issues are as big as his body and his punches are preceded by his punch line – a knock knock joke. Appearing out of nowhere, Nargis Fakhri also falls for our hero resulting in a love quadrilateral!

David Dhawan has penchant for shitty names

We thought it could never get worse than Ankhen’s (1993) Munnu and Bunnu. But David Dhawan really takes the cake for coming up with the most irritating name in the history of names. Sreenath Prasad urf Seenu. How do you take anyone who goes by that name seriously?

    Shake it like Seenu

Aside from that God awful name, Varun Dhawan was surprisingly solid in this film. There were two things about him that stood out spectacularly. His dance moves and his comic timings. Both of which kind of reminded me of David Dhawan’s go to actor, Govinda. Now that was a Jodi no. 1! Varun is nowhere near the magic that was Govinda, but he’s certainly on the right track. The ladies, Ileana D’Cruz, Nargis Fakhri and especially Evelyn Sharma were just decorations. The film was made for beta ji after all. Shakti Kapoor’s cameo on the other hand was hilarious!

    What happened to the story?

A David Dhawan film is never a benchmark for logic. So don’t even bother looking for it in this film. But the main reason why Main Tera Hero falls short is because its spindly story line cannot support the number of characters they decided to stuff in the film. No matter how funny or forced the gags were, there were times when they just got lost in the plot holes. By the end of the film, there were way too many loose ends and unanswered questions!

On a scale of 1 to No. 1, how was Main Tera Hero?

MTH is nowhere near the likes of Hero No. 1 or even Chashme Buddoor. It was too long and in parts, too lame. The saving grace was Varun Dhawan and a personal favourite, Rajpal Yadav, who played Arunoday’s sidekick. And how can I forget the music! Galat Baat Hai, Shanivaar Raati and Palat filled the lull on screen. David Dhawan should thank Sajid-Wajid for that ridiculously addictive soundtrack! Overall, I would only give it 2.5 stars out of 5. You’re better off watching this film when you can fast forward to the good parts. Actually, they showed most of the good parts in the trailer itself. Feel free to skip this film!
