After the initial scrutiny of Margarita, with a Straw, the Censor Board had asked director Shonali Bose to edit scenes and a few frames particularly the one which includes a 13-second kissing scene between Kalki Koechlin and Sayani Gupta, which left the director fuming.

But now, the movie has been given a fresh dose of oxygen and will be coming out with minimal changes after going to the CBFC’s Revising Committee. Shonali, who asked the board to understand the context in which the film has been made, has finally made herself heard. Reacting to the news, she said, "We've come out with only a single cut, I feel like a wife who's beaten up everyday by the husband. Then, on the rare day when she is slapped just once, it becomes a moment of celebration".

Although, the Revising Committee let the lesbian kissing scene slide, but has directed to tone down a 16-second sex scene by cutting its length. The movie - slated for release on April 17 - is about the journey of a rebellious young woman suffering from cerebral palsy.
