The opening day numbers for M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story have come in and some trade observers should probably grab something to hold onto before they hear this.  The Sushant Singh Rajput starrer on its first day has collected a massive 21.30 crores and has made its intentions clear. If it continuous to earn a solid ground of support from the audiences, we are already in for some records shattering.

The film despite being a non-holiday release with a runtime that exceeded longer than 3 hours has been simply phenomenon right from its first show yesterday. The film stayed solid in both multiplexes and single theaters and is likely show further acceleration. With numbers shining in the range 20-25 crores, the film has already set some records and here are some of them:

1 - Highest Opener In The Biopic Genre

2 – Highest Opener As a Sports Based Film

3 – Highest Opener In The League of Films With 3 Hour Long Runtime

    4 – Second Highest Opener in 2016

    5 – Third Highest Opener As a Non-Holiday Release

6 – Highest Opening Film Without A Superstar Status

7 – Highest Opener For Sushant Singh Rajput

8 – Highest Opener For Neeraj Pandey

With such an outstanding run on its opening day and a weekend ahead, the film should close its opening weekend figure close to 70 crores.

What’s interesting to note here is that only Salman Khan’s Sultan that released on Eid earlier this year has been able to open bigger than M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story. In fact all of Akshay Kumar movies that made it to the 100 crore club this year have been nowhere close to the figure of 20 crores.  Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan could also rake in 17 crores on its first day and Dhoni has surpassed them all with solid measures.

While the film has already broken a lot of records with its opening day numbers, looks like many more are in store to get shattered. In an otherwise dimming 2016, this comes as a rare and happy news for the industry!
