5 Things Our FILM INDUSTRY Needs To Learn From M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story!

This is not a review and we put this in capital letters that this Neeraj Pandey directorial is the best thing to have happened to the FILM INDUSTRY and not the fans, viewers or critics!

It’s a healthy site for the film industry and the audiences that one of the biggest releases of the year has arrived with a face that has hardly spent any time as an actor at all! Sushant Singh Rajput has had a couple of good films to his credit and a single solo hit. Today when you think of this year’s colossal release M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story taking a flying start, it sort of satisfies the trade pundits how things have turned out!

5 Things Our FILM INDUSTRY Needs To Learn From M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story!

For the first time in the longest duration, a FILM has been welcomed above a STAR! The tremendous craze at ticket counters, the excellent response at the box office, the real ground buzz proves that while Sushant has convinced he’s indeed living the legend, the enormous buzz around the movie has only been generated through its magnificent trailer and excellent plot.

When movies like Pink and Neerja do well at the box office, it comes as an outcome of the widely spread positive word of mouth generated overtime. However, M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story is different! The film was one of the most awaited releases of the year and the humongous craze had put it in the same league as Sultan, Dangal or a Fan.

Here are 5 reasons why M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story is an excellent practice in the right direction:

    Casting

Neeraj Pandey very politely gave Akshay Kumar a NO when he intended to show his interest in the biopic. Despite being loaded with a very heavy investment and a budget exceeding most limits, any producer/director would have hoped to rope in a star to guarantee returns. Instead, the makers went for someone who could look like Dhoni and justify the role. And how beautifully has Sushant done this? The actor has lived him, not portrayed him!

    No Popular TV Promotions

At a time when Shah Rukh, Salman, Akshay and every big star in the business chooses to market their left right and center, this film trusted its content. Yes Dhoni’s involvement made for a solid reason for not visiting Kapil Sharma’s show which apparently is PR exercise for stars to ask viewers to watch their film with folded hands. The film practiced the old school orthodox method of film’s promotion and aired trailers and dialogue promos on a loop on TV. The film completely trusted in its quality and that is a victory in itself.

    Excellent Trailer

Remember the time when people only used to make their minds up after watching the trailer or listening to the songs? M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story followed the same pattern. With no recognizable face in the fray other than Sushant, the trailer ended up as being the most liked one on Youtube in no time. The film gradually enticed the audiences all over through its visual prospects and songs. The promotional features with Dhoni himself would have helped immensely, but it was the introduction of the film to its audiences, that let the viewers decide if they wanted to watch the film.

    Director Himself

It’s a rarity in India when the filmmaker is looked as a prominent reason to watch the film but this one broke the myth. Neeraj Pandey having made three engaging films in the past was looked as a big plus to its build up. Most audiences are in fact looking to watch this film since it’s his first attempt at an inspiring drama.

The Investment On The Product & Not The Star

A film’s budget shoots toweringly up when the stars quotes his fees and the distributors are left with no choice but to hope the film performs well. Over here, the producers have invested their money exactly where it’s needed – in the making! The wonderful quality of the film that we see has only been made possible through the money that has gone into the making. Would this have been possible if a star was alone costing more than half of the budget of the movie? We guess not.

M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story is a healthy change, a change that shouldn’t just be a change but transform itself into a trend. Let’s hope our industry that otherwise is completely stardom driven, starts making much needed amends.
