The Umrao Jaan director, Muzaffar Ali, has made a comeback in direction, almost after a decade, with his upcoming project, Jaanisaar. The shoot of this period drama, set in 1877, has completed. The flick stars the Creature 3D actor, Imran Abbas and Pernia Qureshi, who marks her debut as an actress with this flick.

Talking about the film, the Gaman director said, “The story deals with a love story in which the boy is westernised and the girl is deeply rooted in the ethos of Indian culture”. A special Sufi song featuring the lead was shot on the last day. The 70-year-old added, “I have chosen lyrics on my own. Lyrics are taken from the poetry of Wajid Ali Shah and Rahi Masoom Raza. In total, we have around seven to eight songs in the film”.

The Padma Shri Award recipient also gave reason for his return in the industry after such a big gap. He said, “I pick subjects which are lessons for the country. I was doing a few more things which couldn’t see the light of day. Since last 10 to 15 years I was working on several scripts. Fortunately, this script caught producer’s mind and we made it finally”.
