Box Office: Sonakshi Sinha's Noor Puts A Halt To The Streak Of Success For Female Centric Bollywood Films!

The streak of success for female-driven Bollywood films seems to have come to a screeching halt thanks to Sonakshi Sinha’s Noor. The film couldn’t find many takers in its first two days of release, making just Rs 3.43 crore at the box office.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film opened to Rs 1.54 crore on Friday, and only marginally improved on Saturday, with earnings of Rs 1.89 crore.

Recent female-centric films like Naam Shabana and Begum Jaan have also performed moderately at the BO. Naam Shabana has made Rs 36 crore in three weeks and Begum Jaan’s total after one week in release is Rs 17.83 crore.

Noor is based on the novel Karachi! You are Killing Me! and is about a young journalist and her journey to bring more meaning to her life and profession.

Hindustan Times’ review concluded, “Noor does not understand journalism, it fails to establish enough angst for the protest it hopes to ignite, it stops being the rom-com (the one thing that the movie was getting right) pretty soon and it does not give the victims enough time for us to empathise, nor does it ponder over the aggressors enough, for us to loathe them.”
