Now, American dancer in a lavani!

Bollywood is going gaga over lavani. Even as Katrina Kaif (Chikni chameli) and Vidya Balan (Mala jau de) get rave reviews for their folk dance performances, Lauren Gottlieb is the latest addition to this list. The winner of US TV show, So You Think You Can Dance, is likely to be seen doing a lavani number in Remo DSouzas ABCD (AnyBody Can Dance), Bollywoods first 3D dance film, in which she makes her Bollywood debut.Since Lauren is a trained dancer, the makers thought it would be a unique move to make her do a lavani song. Although things have been kept under wraps, they have already shot the number at Kamalistan Studio over four-five days, says an industry insider. When we first saw Lauren in her Indian look, we didnt recognise her at all! In the film, shes sporting both Indian and Western looks and styles. Remos wife, Lizelle, worked closely with designers Moiz and Dipti to portray Lauren in a completely new light and it has worked really well, says Rucha Pathak, senior creative director, Studios, Disney UTV.Besides Vidya and Katrina, lavani has been a hit with dancing divas like Helen (Mungda in Inkaar, 1977) and Madhuri Dixit (Humko aajkal hai in Sailaab, 1990, and Main Kolhapur se aayi hoon in Anjaam, 1994). Rani Mukerji will also be seen in a similar avatar in her upcoming film, Aiyya. We showcase several Indian dance forms in ABCD, and Lauren has done most of them. The ease with which she adapted to Indian dances has been brilliant. She has surprised all of us, says Remo.
