OK Jaanu v/s Haraamkhor v/s xXx: Who Won The Box Office Battle This Weekend?
Unlike the past two weekends, this Friday saw the release of three big movies in theaters. But the question that us nerds really wanted to be answered was whether Aamir Khan's Dangal be displaced at Indian box office.
First off, there is Deepika Padukone's Hollywood debut opposite Vin Diesel in xXx: Return Of Xander Cage, which is releasing in India before it releases in U.S. and other international territories. And as far as Bollywood release goes, we see a big-budgeted Dharma production OK Jaanu starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur clash with an almost independent film Haraamkhor, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Shweta Tripathi (previously starred in Masaan).
So how did the movies performed at the BO?
OK JAANU
OK Jaanu performed at a less-than-average level, minting Rs 13.80 crore in its first weekend. This was confirmed by leading trade analyst, Taran Adarsh.
Haraamkhor
Being a very small film, expectations from Haraamkhor was never high. And that proved to be the case in terms of BO.
xXx: Return of Xander Cage
The Vin Diesel-Deepika Padukone-starrer was the weekend's winner by earning Rs 8 crore till Saturday (which included Friday preview collections. The film is expected to earn around Rs 7 crore on Sunday, bringing its weekend total to Rs 15 crore.
Dangal
And while all the new movies took a shot at displacing the Aamir Khan movie, they couldn't completely stop Dangal's dream run. An interesting point that emerged from the weekend numbers of the film was that it earned more on its 5th Sunday, what OK Jaanu earned on its opening day.
Better luck next Friday, new releases!
