Shahid And Ranveer Were Not First Choices For Padmavati

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently shooting for the much awaited movie, ‘Padmavati’ starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead. The flick will see Deepika playing the titular role of Padmavati, while Shahid will essay the role of her husband Raja Rawal Ratan Singh, who is a King of Chittor. Ranveer will be playing Allauddin Khilji.

However, industry grapevine is abuzz that Ranveer and Shahid were not the first choice to play Alauddin Khilji and Rawal Ratan Singh. SLB initially considered top stars to play the roles. But they rejected the film as they believed that the title of the film sounded more like a female-centric film.  However, Bhansali was determined to have Deepika even after superstars refused to be a part of the film.

Rajeev Masand said, “Bhansali stuck with his leading lady even after top male stars offered to star in it if the director was willing to change the title to sound less like it revolved around the heroine. Deepika is returning the favour by standing firmly by Bhansali’s side, focusing solely on Padmavati, even as her co-actors Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor are dividing their time between Bhansali’s set and ad-films, appearances, and the like”.

The movie is slated to release on November 17, 2017.
