Priyadarshan Gives Explanation For His Decisions At The National Awards

There is only one thing Bollywood is talking about right now and that is the 64th National Awards ceremony. It came with a lot of surprises with regional cinema taking the cake. A lot of people had questioned the decision of the jury which was headed by Priyadarshan, stating that Akshay Kumar did not deserve the National Award and ‘Dangal’ and ‘Aligarh’ should’ve got more recognition.

Recently, Priyadarshan gave his explanation for not giving Aamir Khan the 'Best Actor' award for ‘Dangal’. He said that Aamir himself said that he would not accept the award if he is given one. “So, why spoil it for some other actor who stood as good a chance of winning the award”, he added. He also questioned the people who voiced their opinions against the winners and said, “Ramesh Sippy headed the jury last year. When he gave Best Actor to Amitabh Bachchan for Piku why didn't anyone question him?”.

When asked why ‘Aligarh’ did not win any awards, Priyadarshan stated that this year, regional films were far better than the ones made in Bollywood. He felt that the Marathi, Bengali and Malayalam films were not only entertaining but also touched on significant social issues. What do you think about the winners of National Awards?
