Priyanka Chopra recently joined the Academy of Motion Picture of Arts & Sciences (AMPAS). The actress feels that the Academy should have more than a single award for foreign language films. Before last week, for the past two years, there were only white nominees for acting awards. Some progress was made when AMPAS invited a record 774 new members from 57 countries around the world to join the ranks.

Priyanka said that progress is being made, which is a good thing. “It's interesting that though (past Indian) winners were Indian, it was for their work in international films largely about India, but not made by India. For a global community like India to be represented on a larger scale, I think it will have to move beyond a single award for all foreign language films”, the actress shared.

She hopes that the new additions to the ranks will help in the propagation of racial equality. She wishes for foreign films to have more opportunities to show case themselves at the Oscars. Other actors who were invited to join the Academy were Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Irrfan Khan and others.
