Rajkumar Hirani Talks About Sanjay Dutt’s Biopic

Rajkumar Hirani Talks About Sanjay Dutt’s Biopic

Rajkumar Hirani and Sanjay Dutt have given Bollywood a cult classic comic series, Munnabhai. The duo sets a great example of friendship in the industry. Their bond is bigger than their on screen chemistry and hence Hirani has recently said that his upcoming film, which is a biopic on Sanjay Dutt, isn’t a means to publicise or promote his friend.

Sanjay Dutt, who is 56, is currently serving 42-month sentence in Yerwada Jail of Pune after being convicted of possessing illegal weapons used in the 1993 Mumbai blast. Meanwhile, Hirani has decided to make a biopic on the Bollywood actor. Ranbir Kapoor has been roped in to play Dutt’s role in the yet-to-be titled flick.

Talking about the film, the filmmaker has been quoted as saying, “I take so long to make a film. I will never make a film to propagate a friend. When they told me about the film I said I don’t understand this world, till I actually heard his story. The first time he opened up and when I heard his story, I found it very engaging. That’s the only reason I am going to make a film and I am only going to show him as he is”.

The PK director further said that Dutt’s life is quite intriguing. “It has many elements; it’s a father-son relationship. There is humour, pathos. I get sucked in great stories. So, when I was writing something this came on my lap and I thought that’s such a great story”, he said.

“We are showing Sanju’s life from the time he was 17 to now, when he is 55. So obviously Sanju can’t play it. We needed an actor who looks like a star, is a good actor, who can gain weight and become like that. Ranbir is a fantastic actor. He has grown a lot and he knows Sanju as well”, he added.
