Ramu finds Ekta as a potential backer in his bleak times

Ramu finds Ekta as a potential backer in his bleak times

Ten years ago if a producer had refused to sponsor a Ram Gopal Verma film, eyebrows would have significantly gone up.  Once a ‘King’ of unconventional cinematic alley, Ramu and his factory has now been confined to a mere production seeking projects to work in. While the factory has stopped manufacturing products, RGV has himself given up on backing his own projects. What comes as a respite for him here though is production queen Ekta Kapoor has agreed to back his next as a producer.

The Satya director who touted his next to be ‘the thing’ in the industry apparently couldn’t find anyone to finance it. If the reported Balaji’s help extension is true, it sure is a mark of revival for the filmmaker. Ram Gopal Verma’s constant failure at the box office didn’t seem to make him realise his mistakes since he continued to give duds after duds. While Satya 2 did make some noise before its release, the balloon fizzled out as soon as it hit the screens. The collaboration of Ekta and the director could be seen as an interesting prospect since both are known to not carry the formula style of cinema. While Ekta’s a renowned money spinner courtesy her cinematic business sense, one can expect something good materialising here. However it is still too early to speculate anything.

While the idea would take its own time to formulate, the audience would only hope that they get to watch some real stuff of the talented director, even if it’s just a glimpse. Who knows a good judgement at a good time may take us back to the form that gave films like Sarkaar, Satya, Company and Rangeela.
