Rowdy Rathore put me in a happy, positive frame of mind: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Despite being slammed by the film critics for producing mindless masala film likeRowdy Rathore, noted Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is not feeling guilty or apologetic. Hesaid that the record breaking success of the film has actually made him more outgoing and flamboyant.Bhansali, who is best known for his artistic movies like Devdas, Black and Guzaarish, said Rowdy Rathorehas opened new doors in his vision. Talking about the Prabhu Deva-directed film which has crossed the100-cr mark this week, Bhansali said, Why only produce films that I would want to direct myself? Whyshouldnt I produce the kind of movie that I have grown up watching? My father (Naveen Bhansali)produced a film, Jahaaji Lootera. It has remained embedded in my subconscious and surfaced in RowdyRathore. Slamming the film critics, Bhansali said, All kinds of films are made today. One genre thatcontinues its successful run is the potboiler. Rowdy Rathore is the kind of film I used to clap and cheerfor as a child at Alankar Talkies and Imperial Talkies. Last week, when I visited Chandan Talkies, audiencemembers came to shake my hand and hug me. Its something Ive never experienced after my self-directed films. Its new to me. And Im enjoying myself thoroughly. No one can make me feel guilty orapologetic, because Ive had as much fun producing Rowdy Rathore, as I had directing Black. I feelrejuvenated. However, the filmmaker made it clear that he will himself not direct these kinds of filmsas he is not comfortable with this genre. Im convinced about my aesthetics. Im proud of Black andGuzaarish. But Im not new to mass acceptance. Devdas created the same euphoria. Lataji (LataMangeshkar) sings the soft, Allah tero naam and the massy, Bangle ke peeche with equal flawlessness. Icant claim to be as versatile. I will direct the films that I am comfortable with. He added that RowdyRathore has changed his filmmaking. It has opened new doors in my vision. A certain kind offlamboyance will be part of the film I direct and produce henceforth. Rowdy Rathore has put me in ahappy, positive frame of mind.
