The fresh trial for Salman Khan’s long pending 2002 hit-and-run case was scheduled to begin yesterday in a sessions court but witnesses failed to appear during the hearing. Hence Judge D.W. Prosecutor Jagannath Kenjalkar told the court that the first witness, a laundry owner, failed to appear as he is paralysed, the second one was not traceable while the last one had gone to Bangalore. However, Salman was not required to appear in the court as he has already received permanent exemption from appearance. The fresh trial of the case was ordered last year on December 5 as the judge was not content with the examination of witnesses in the context of culpable homicide charges against Salman Khan.
