Saturn Awards 2013: The Avengers, Life of Pi, The Cabin in the Woods, Skyfall emerge as toppers

This is the 39thyear when Saturn Awards honoured the best talents in the categories of sci-fi, fantasy and horror films by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films. While among the big-screen films, the topmost winners are The Avengers, Life of Pi, The Cabin in the Woods and Skyfall, in the television section the victory went to the likes of Revolution, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.

It was a bad day for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises as it couldn’t make a huge mark at the awards night, though being nominated in several categories. It walked away with only a Best Supporting Actress award which went to Anne Hathaway. Killer Joe gave a good time to William Friedkin with an award for Best Independent Film and also the Best Actor which went to Matthew McConaughey. Friedkin was also honoured with the highly esteemed lifetime achievement award by the organization. Joss Whedon won the Best Director’s award for The Avengers, which bagged four trophies and he also received the best Horror/Thriller film trophy for The Cabin in the Woods.
