Shabana Azmi launches a website dedicated to her poet father!

Shabana Azmi gives his father Kaifi Azmi’s fans a reason to smile! The critically acclaimed actress has recently launched a website to honour his father. "Please check out official updated website of Kaifi Azmi," Shabana tweeted on the micro-blogging site along with the link www.azmikaifi.com.

"They have nailed the lie that people only want sasti shayari. Those who believe that are out of sync with the times. The fact is that people are prepared for change and looking for quality stuff to bridge the gap," the National Award winning actress tells media. Along with her father’s work on verses, nazams and ghazals, the website also has his rare and unseen pictures with Shabana. The website also contains written and video contributions from her mother, Shakuat Kaifi and husband Javed Akhtar. "We'll be putting up more of his poetry in his own voice. Some of it is already available with us and some of it is being restored. Kaifi saab was known as much for his writing as his recitation," she retorts.  Soon, all the books on the website will be available. "Fans can buy them online directly from the site," she informs.

The website also contains the work of Mijwan. Mijwan Welfare Society (MWS) is an NGO founded in 1993 working for the empowerment of people living in village Mijwan. It was a dream of Kaifi Azmi and as a good daughter Shabana has been working on it since her father passed away in 2002. “Koi to sood chukaye koi to zimma ley, us inquilab ka jo aaj tak udhaar sa hai....” the poem of Late Kaifi Azmi talks about our responsibilities towards rural India!
