These days actors leave no stone unturned while promoting their movies. The culture of promotions does give an edge over in terms of pulling crowds to theatres and box office collections. But, Deols seem to have maintained a distance from campaigning in present times as well.  Sharing his views on this hesitation, veteran actor Dharmendra said he finds this as blowing his own trumpet though, Shah Rukh Khan once told him to lay emphasis on promotions.

The actor told PTI, "Apne was a good film and there was no film like this in the sports genre. Lot of films in sports genre got support from media but our film did not. I remember Shah Rukh Khan had once told me I should have promoted and marketed it well to grab attention; I think there has to be a proper way to promote a film. I can't blow my own trumpet. I don't feel that is right”. The Sholay star said that his son Sunny Deol also feels the same way. He said, “Sunny thinks doing too much promotion is like blowing your own trumpet".

The Padhma Bhushan award winner said that B-town has undergone numerous changes since the old times. “Actors today are confident and smart. There was a time we used to listen to stories from elders. There was apnapan (camaraderie) which is not there today. Now people talk to the point, they talk when they need you. I wish this thing is not there in the future", he said. "Filmmakers are picking up true incidents from real life and making films on it which is good. True to life stories are being written which is great. These stories touch you", the actor added.
