Shahid Kapoor Is In Demand

He has been part of Bollywood for the past 12 years, but Shahid Kapoor feels that now is the time when he is finally getting his due. “For me, the so-called big opportunities weren’t really big initially. By chance, I signed those films, and they worked. But now, I can’t afford too many ‘by chances’ in my career. I want to work with the right film-makers. Even cinema has changed a lot. About 10-12 years ago, Indian cinema as well as the audience was different,” he says.

The 34-year-old, who is currently busy with film-maker Vishal Bhardwaj’s next, adds that he has “also been part of the transition the industry has gone through over the past decade”. “Earlier, it would take six or seven years for someone in a small town to recognise your face. There was no Internet and endorsements were 1% of what they are today. But now, people from smaller towns know about a hero even if he does just one photo shoot,” he adds.

On the other hand, adding that Haider (2014) has been “fundamental” in changing people’s perspective towards him, he says, “I feel that more people want to work with me now, than they did maybe three years ago. Also, I am working with really good film-makers, as well as people who are doing some really credible work today.”
