Shahid & Ranveer as Ram & Lakhan, Here’s What We Feel About It

The ever gyrating wheel of speculations around Ram Lakhan’s leading cast doesn’t seem to apply any breaks. However though, we are here with possibly the biggest development in the project. After Arjun Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan got in the reckoning of playing either Ram or Lakhan in Karan Johar’s ambitious remake, we learn the makers have finally locked the principal cast.

So to occupy the legacy filled shoes of Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor as Ram and Lakhan respectively, will come Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. With this, while we are yet to dissect how the two may fit in their respective roles, we’ll at least hope the decision is final.

And now on to the bigger picture! 27 years ago when Subhash Ghai crafted this hardcore masala entertainer, it was meant to rule over box office from the word go. A widowed mom, a sane cop elder brother, a clueless vulnerable younger brother, a highly motivated revenge in the backdrop, an overblown villain, two respective heroines, emotions, drama and action! The recipe to what could only define the true essence of Indian cinema back then was given a taste so delicious by Subhash Ghai that Ram Lakhan stays as one of the most cherished films to come out of Hindi cinema. To take the away the baton, comes Rohit Shetty (another masala master) along with Karan Johar as producer.

Shahid has apparently been roped in to play Ram, the straight out cop character while Ranveer plays the madness filled Lakhan. Good choices, you’d say! The exuberance, the chirpiness, the insanity followed by detestation in Lakhan would look perfect for someone like Ranveer to carry. While Shahid, as he as in the past shown that carrying sensible, calmed up roles can also be his foray.

Of course the chemistry would be something to look forward to between the two stars as we’d like them to carry forward the legacy Anil and Jackie have left behind. By the time the original Ram Lakhan came out, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff had already done a lot of work together while Shahid and Ranveer haven’t. Although, this isn’t something the makers would be worried about!

As much as we’d like Ranveer to skin into the character of Lakhan and do the signature Anil Kapoor step in My Name Is Lakhan, watching Shahid at his elegant best doing Tera Naam Liya could give jitters to his filmy fans.

Let’s hope Karan and Rohit are on course with their hunt to find other characters to fit in other roles too. From Rakhi-Amrish Puri to Satish Kaushik-Anupam Kher, each and every character from Ram Lakhan had something to offer. Are we going to see the same masala being reinvented or Rohit-Karan have a different recipe? Whatever it is, we are looking forward to it!
