    TIFF 2014: Margarita, with a Straw wins the NETPAC award for Best Asian Film

    Indian film Margarita, with a Strawreceived the NETPAC award for Best Asian Film at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival which closed on September 14. Directed by Shonali Bose and co-produced by Shonali Bose and Nilesh Maniyar, the film revolves around a girl with cerebral palsy played by actress Kalki Koechlin.

    The NETPAC Jury announced, “Margarita, with a Straw is both universal and groundbreaking. Director Shonali Bose and actress Kalki Koechlin have jointly created a character and a world that embody a love letter to life, with all its highs and lows, in spite of overwhelming physical limitations.”

    An excited Shonali Bose retorted, "We got standing ovations for our screenings and there is a huge buzz about our film. To top it all, we are on Cameron Bailey's prestigious 'mission list' of films that change the way you look at the world. There are only 16 films in that list." 

    "We have already sold for a theatrical release to Japan and talks are on with many other countries," says Shonali eagerly. Margarita, with a Straw is slated for early 2015 release in India.
