Though box-office pundits have called 2017 a bad year for the business of Bollywood, that has not stopped few Bollywood films to rake in big numbers. Apart from the domestic market, films this year has earned good money at the overseas as well and broke a few records too.
Here are a top 10 movies that had the highest revenue worldwide in 2017
Baahubali: The Conclusion
With a staggering 801.61 crore earning Baahubali: The Conclusion is not only the highest grosser of the year but also set an all time record at the box-office. Another thing to be noted is, this is just the earning of the Hindi dubbed version which does not include the earning of the original Telugu version.
This Shah Rukh Khan starer sure ran into some controversies but the power packed performances by SRK on one side and Nawazuddin Siddiqui on the other, was enough to take the movie past the 200 crore mark. With a worldwide box office earning of about 273 crores, Raees is by far second on the list.
Even when his film is a disappointment, he touches 200 crores, that is the impact of Salman Khan at the box office. Critics anyway have never been a fan of Salman Khan movies, but Tubelight was rejected by many serious Bhai devotees, but that did not stop the film from grossing about 208 crores and coming third on the list.
Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya
Giving the mega Khans a thorough competition, Varun-Alia starrer Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya was one of the biggest hit of the year. Although the film is currently in the fifth spot with a total worldwide earning of 184 crores, given the successful run that is going on at the box office it has every possibility to become the third highest grosser of the year after Baahubali: The Conclusion and Raees.
Jolly LLB 2
A sequel to the 2013 surprise hit Jolly LLB, the Akshay Kumar starer definitely had more star power than the first one starring Arshad Warsi. After his historic debacle named Mohenjo Daro last year, Hrithik came back with a bang with Kaabil this year. The fresh pairing of him with Yami Gautam and a smart revenge saga was appreciated by the audience. The film earned a respectable 151 crores worldwide even after clashing with Shah Rukh Khan's Raees at the box office.
Jab Harry Met Sejal
Although it was quite a treat to have two Shah Rukh Khan releases in one year, that is not counting Dear Zindagi as a Shah Rukh Khan release, the success of Raees was not mimicked by this Shah Rukh- Anushka starrer love story. However, riding on the star power and the reputation of director Imtiaz Ali the has earned about 150 crores worldwide, coming eighth on the list.
This is hands down the most surprising entry on the list. Made with a budget of 23 crores with not much star power to boost and a subject that is nowhere close to the run of the mill heroic machismo or epic romance, the film has grossed about 103 crores worldwide. In fact, Hindi Medium with a few other films has gone to prove that 2017 was a year in which content reigned supreme.
Another formula hit by Anees Bazmee starring Arjun Kapoor in double role supported by Anil Kapoor and an ensemble cast was accepted by the mass audience. Earning a total collection of 90 crores worldwide Mubarakan as of now is the tenth highest grosser of the year but has every possibility to be dethroned by some upcoming releases.
