Box Office Report: Guess Which Milestone Judwaa 2 Is Heading For...

More than Varun Dhawan , daddy David must be a happy man today. He has turned out two box office superhits with the same script, mostly same jokes but a different cast (son Varun replaces Salman Khan in Judwaa 2). As Judwaa 2 earns Rs 77.25 crore at the box office in the extended weekend – Monday was a holiday due to Gandhi Jayanti – it is also a win for Varun who has delivered two superhits, Badrinath ki Dulhania being the first, this year. Judwaa 2 also stars Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Taking to Twitter, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Tuesday, “#Judwaa2 crosses ₹ 75 cr mark... Fri 16.10 cr, Sat 20.55 cr, Sun 22.60 cr, Mon 18 cr. Total: ₹ 77.25 cr. India biz. OUTSTANDING!”

He has been quite effusive in the praise of the film which has come in a year marked by disappointing superstar vehicles. Earlier, he had written, “The SMASHING opening weekend biz of #Judwaa2 proves yet again that well-made mass entertainers will never go out of fashion!, adding, “Varun hits the ball out of the park… ₹ 20 cr biz on two consecutive days – a rare feat that very few actors can boast of… #Judwaa2.”

Judwaa 2 has done exceptionally well internationally too.

Talking about how films should look at the larger audience, he added, “The ROCKING biz of #Judwaa2 hammers the fact that Studios/filmmakers need to make films for pan India audience, not for select cities/plexes.”

In the recent past, Salman Khan’s Tubelight (Rs 64.77 Cr) and Shah Rukh Khan ’s Jab Harry Met Sejal (Rs 45.75 Cr) left the trade disappointed. While Akshay Kumar ’s Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 50.46 Cr) and Toilet Ek Prem Katha (51.45 Cr) are hits, Judwaa 2 has managed to earn more than both in the first weekend. The comedy has done better than Varun- Alia Bhatt film Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Rs 43.05 Cr) as well. In terms of weekend earner, SRK’s Raees (Rs 93.24 Cr) continues to be the Hindi top draw of 2017.

Now, the trade is wondering how soon the Varun Dhawan film will enter the Rs 100 crore club. In 2017, films that made it to the club include Raees, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Jolly LLB 2, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Hindi Medium and Kaabil among others.
