When asked why he chose Vidya Balan to represent his Gurukul and not some other actress, the 70-year-old told Mumbai Mirror, "Vidya is the only non-cosmetic actress in the industry. Her knowledge about India's culture is profound. She has a deep connection with our traditions. While most actresses would have asked, 'Am I getting Rs 2 crore or Rs 5 crore?' Vidya came on board so she could learn more about meditation". Ghai’s ‘Gurukul’ in film city includes a prayer room and a centre for classical music. The director also said that the music centre will encourage musicians to study classical music in his ‘traditionally-styled’ centre.

Ghai added that the people of the film industry go abroad for detox treatment and to relax, but now his Gurukul can offer the same facilities which would help the stars of B-town to relax. He also hopes to rope in Hariharan and Hema Malini to conduct special sessions at the centre.
