    It was one of the most challenging roles for Vidya Balan to portray the Southern sensation Silk Smitha in her National Award-winning filmThe Dirty Picture. Her stupendous performance was critically acclaimed and she became a cause of envy for her contemporaries who denied characterising such a controversial personality. Now, it has been reported that the character and the role of Silk has become a topic of case study at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

    According to a source, in the way Vidya performed the role, Silk emerged as an interesting character to TISS officials to become a part of psychological and sociological study, as reported by a leading daily. The insider was quoted as, "Sociologists from TISS who undertake projects that focus on research that, among other things, influences policy and social practices, also agreed with her character's observations in the film.”

    Vidya said prior to the release of the film, "There was a certain amount of mental preparation about being uninhibited and being unapologetic about being uninhibited...But I have enjoyed it.” The film by Milan Luthria also starred Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and Emran Hashmi and was released on December 2, 2011.
