We Expected Better From Jhalak Dikhla Jaa!

The popular dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa has returned to the TV screens on Colors, with quite a promising start. This is the 9^th season of the show and like most other seasons has a list of some quite interesting celebrities.  The season kick started with a collective performance starring all contestants, and the judges all together.  While we love the show to bits, this year it the opening remained more laid back and not as exciting as other seasons.

The format of the show has shifted slightly, with the studio audience becoming the forth judge and grading performance, rather than contestants asking for votes from the viewers. This slight change will make profound impact on results which will be more instant decisive!

Here are the notable elements of the episode -

Karan Johar – The director/producer in his 5^th year on the show and still quite in his wacky element! Over the years Karan seems to have shed his dancing inhibitions on the show and performed in the opening act along with co judges Ganesh Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez! Where stole the limelight in the very first episode was when he danced like there’s no tomorrow to Mera Naam Mary Hai! Some dance moves they were!!

Jacqueline Fernandez – The actress who is a first time judge on the show, seemed pretty excited to be a part of the show. She gave a sizzling solo performance in the opening act on a mix of her own songs and was all bubbly and jumpy about the performance of all contestants. Her presence on the show gave it a fresh appeal and enthusiasm, as she remained at the heart of all philandering and seemed to be as taken by it as the contestants themselves. Dressed in a sizzling pink gown, she voluntarily hopped on to the stage when felt like to shake a leg with the contestants even flirting with audiences!

Ganesh Hegde – The dance master had critical eye on all performances and fairly judges all contestants based to their calibre as non-dancers or trained ones.  He even gave an interesting lesson in Punjabi dance moves to everyone!

Manish Paul – The power bank of a host, Manish was in his element, flirting with Jacqueline, wacky one liners and manoeuvring through performances seamlessly! Throwing hilarious punches like ‘Gareebon ke Karan Johar , Sanam Johar!!’ he won our hearts as usual!!

The Contestants – The opening episode has set the stage for the competition ahead where it was fairly visible who the strong contenders are in the race. The contestants performed in groups of two or three with their respective choreographers, making the weak links pretty evident.    Choreographer turned star contestant bagged the highest point from the judges with a 25! Surveen Chawla, Kairshma Tanna, Shantannu Maheshwari , Nora Fatehi, Priyanka and Poonam are also to be watched out for.

 While there were no eliminations in this episode, the scores shall be carried forward to the next one.  We expect that the show will pick up become better than the Jhalak we got in the first episode and ture to its punch line Jhalak.. Hot Hai!!
