Will Shahid Kapoor come in for ‘Udta Punjab’?

After Ishqiya and Dedh Ishqiya, filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey is now all set to direct his next titled Udta Punjab. He is reportedly in talks with Shahid Kapoor to play the lead but his confirmation remains a mystery. Shahid’s packed schedule has put things on hold as far as the casting goes but Abhishek is positive since he is figuring things out with the actor.

Udta Punjab is a Sci-fi movie written by Abhishek himself who has lately been travelling to Punjab a lot. He didn’t divulge any substantial details about the film and said it was too early to talk about anything. His last ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ was taken graciously by the critics but didn’t find too many viewers at the box office unlike its prequel ‘Ishqiya’ which was both a critical and commercial success. Priyanka Chopra is perhaps on top of the priority list of the makers for the female lead. Shahid-Priyanka pair has previously worked together in Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Kaminey’ and Kunal Kohli’s ‘Teri Meri Kahaani.’ He’s also shifting his base camp as his next is apparently not being produced by Vishal Bharadwaj. Udta Punjab is a project under Phantom Films. Both Ishqiya and Dedh Ishqiya were co-written and produced by Vishal Bharadwaj.
