    This is perhaps one of the happiest moments in veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar’s family as he has been selected to receive the coveted Sahitya Akademi award for his immense contribution to Urdu poetry. Apparent happiness has been noticed in his son Farhan Akhtar’s words as he said that it is a moment of pride for his entire family.

    Farhan said while attending the red carpet of Big Star Entertainment Awards, "Our entire family is very happy. We are very proud of him and we always have been.” "This Sahitya Akademi award that he has got is very well deserved and I would like to congratulate all the recipients of the awards in various fields," he added. Senior Akhtar has written scripts for several films including evergreen blockbusters like Zanjeer, Sholay and Deewar. He has been chosen for this award on compilation of 55 Urdu poems in his book titled Lava. Among others, Hindi poet Mridula Garg and Bengali poet Subodh Sarkar will also be honoured with this year’s Sahitya Akademi award. This literary honour, which is presented to writers for their amazing job in the field of literature, will be presented at a special ceremony on March 11, 2014 during the annual Akademi's Festival of Letters hosted by the Sahitya Akademi in New Delhi.
