Actress Angelina Jolie Pitt, who is noted for her humanitarian efforts, has been appointed as a visiting professor at Britain’s prestigious London School of Economics. The university announced that the Oscar-winning star will contribute to a new master’s programme on women, peace and security. The programme is aimed at promoting gender equality and assisting women affected by conflict around the world.

The Maleficent actress reveals that she is quite encouraged by the creation of the programme. “I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict”, stated the 40-year-old actress.

She also looks forward to teach and to learn from students as well as to share her own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations. British former foreign minister William Hague is among the other three new visiting professors appointed to teach the course. Jolie co-founded the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative in 2010 along with Hague.
