    Birdman, Whiplash dominate Academy, Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore earn top acting honours

    The 87th Academy awards ended with Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman leading the show with 3 major awards. The Oscars outthinking most of us around gave the best picture and best director award to Birdman ending the evening colliding with merits.

    The film won most awards this year along with Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash that also won three honours. While Birdman also won the best original screenplay besides the two big awards, it was Eddie Redmayne who took home the best actor award for his overwhelming performance in The Theory of Everything. Actress Julianne Moore won the best actress award for her amazing show of acting display in Still Alice.

    J.K. Simmons for Whiplash and Patricia Arquette for Boyhood won honours in the category of best supporting actor and actress respectively. Whiplash also won the best editing and best sound mixing award taking its tally up to three. Richard Linklater’s Boyhood surprisingly remained out of the winning zone and only ended up winning one.
